Guiding Expectation

We expect the emergence of a world fit for explorers,
and of a people fit to live in such a world.
We find and engage the providers of tools, ideas, and visions
useful to the builders of emerging freeorder.

The Explorers Foundation exists to benefit explorers. We investigate quest-serving balances among designed and spontaneous orders within networks of thought, nature, and commerce, and call such balances freeorder. A simple way to think of freeorder is what's good for explorers, within them and among them. We seek to provoke the emergence of a world fit for the best humanity has to offer, and we strive to fit ourselves for such a world. Through our Cobden-Bright Awards, named for two removers of barriers inhibiting trade, we invest in the work of those from whom we learn.

Explorers Foundation investments recognize and advance the work of individuals who through their vision and action contribute to a world fit for explorers. Our investments have ranged from $5,000 to $250. During 2009 we expect to make another twenty investments. We hope that the pattern of our investments will encourage the following conculsion: It is possible to build and sustain a world fit for explorers and to fit ourselves to inhabit such a world. If you share our belief that the character of the adventurer whose quests are governed by strong integrity is the heart of all civilization please contact us.

We speak of "investments", not of donations, contributions, or grants because we think a nonprofit venture should produce gains for its backers. We are a 501(c)(3). The gains we seek are not monetary.
